Live-in care is person-centred. Over time, our live-in carers build a relationship through listening, understanding and reacting. Even the smallest idiosyncrasies are, if possible and of course safe, accommodated for.

Carers are involved in a range of daily tasks, with the focus always the wellbeing of the person they are supporting and their unique requirements. This companionship along with support with house chores, medication requirements and getting out and about is very much at the heart of our person centred care.

Friends and Family

However the carer isn’t the only important individual in this person-centred approach. A carer is often close with the close family members. After all, the family know their loved ones best. It is important to us that the family are happy and reassured. They must be confident that they are getting the very best support for their loved ones.

Person-centred care is all about understanding what your loved-one is happy doing. Many of our clients still enjoy getting out and about and catching up with friends. It’s important that our carers get on with our clients friends so everyone feels relaxed and enjoying the day.

Ruth’s Story

This is Ruth’s experience as told by our Mumby’s live in care worker.

Ruth used to be in the choir so we went to the church in her wheelchair. The vicar and other members were so happy to see her. Ruth was so happy, she was singing and she chatted a lot with friends and other members of the congregation.

Ruth said to me “it makes me remember my husband”. I know it makes her very emotional but herself and her friends celebrate the life that he had.

They have a wheelchair ramp in front of the door which makes it easier to access. Ruth now wants to go again every Sunday. She has a sense of community back which she lost after her husband passed away.

Her Daughter said to me that “ it is good therapy for the soul, the music especially is something that Ruth enjoys so much”
